Windows 11 upgrades for staff laptops

The lifecycle of the Windows 10 operating system is coming to an end during 2025. Therefore, workstations managed by Jamk’s IT administrations will be updated to the Windows 11 operating system by the end of April 2025. Testing of the operating system has been ongoing since the beginning of 2024, and during the past summer, most student computers have already been updated to the new operating system version.

The Helpdesk has now started updating staff computers to the new Windows 11 operating system version and hopes that staff will contact Helpdesk about updating their laptops as soon as possible. Before performing the update, ensure that all your important files are saved either on OneDrive or a network drive. For the update, the computer must be delivered to the Helpdesk, so please contact the Helpdesk through a service request to schedule a time for the update. It is advisable to leave the service request under the category of your own campus, for example, ICT support / ICT-Piippukatu (Lutakko Campus). The update is estimated to take about two hours, and it is possible to borrow a laptop during the update.

Although the appearance of the Windows 11 operating system has been refreshed, it still has the familiar basic features and tools available, making it easy for the user to continue working in the familiar way. Windows 11 also brings desired flexibility for remote work, thanks to cloud-based management. If you have any concerns regarding the update, the Helpdesk will be happy to answer your questions.
