Service interruption in the Zoom service on 2.9.2026 and changes to features
There will be a service break of about 15 minutes in the Zoom service on 2.9.2026 at 9 p.m. due to service changes. After that, we will replace On-Premis Zoom with HybridZoom, which will bring a lot of new functions, e.g. Zoom’s modern cloud and AI capabilities that are not available in the traditional and current on-prem solution:
-
Live Captions and Caption Translations for Zoom Meetings
-
AI Companion (automatic summaries of meetings, Chatbot during the meeting)
-
minor improvements to Zoom’s cloud recording, cloud recordings will continue to go to Panopto in the user’s own My Folder and there to the Meeting Recordings folder.
-
Live streaming of meetings, and much more that everyone can explore on their own
-
and two ways to use:
-
Hybrid mode that combines NORDUnet’s infrastructure and Zoom’s cloud
-
Private mode, which is a component of the Hybrid architecture that corresponds to the traditional and current on-prem model. Its key features are: Meeting media (audio, video, screen share) will remain in NORDUnet’s own infrastructure. Zoom’s cloud does not process the media in the meeting. External participants join through the NORDUnet infrastructure.

In practice, we will have the HybridZoom option by default, and the user will choose the PrivateZoom option when scheduling a meeting, if the meeting is about particularly sensitive data. In that case, AI-assisted functions such as subtitles or summaries, and cloud storage will not be used. You can still record locally by selecting the Local Recording option.
NOTE! I will turn off Zoom’s cloud recording as a precaution on September 1st at 9pm and will restore it on Thursday morning when the migration is complete. So please use the local recording option during that time! Also be prepared for the outage to be longer in some areas.
