Watching a video and moving from one point to another
- The buttons at the bottom of the window allow you to watch and pause the video, move forward and backward in the video, and edit the video.
- Above the buttons, a blue cursor indicates where you are in the video. Move it to move around the video.
- You can also move to the desired point in the video by clicking on the Time text below the buttons and setting the desired time in the window that opens.
Editing a video
You can either edit a video by selecting a snippet from your video and saving it as a separate file, or you can cut out small sections of the video and save the rest as a separate file.
A) Use these instructions to select a clip from your video and save it:
- Move the cursor to the point in the video where you want the clip to start.
- Click the A button.
- Move the cursor to the point in the video where you want the clip to end.
- Click the B button.
- An area bounded by the A and B buttons, highlighted in blue, will appear on the video timeline.
- In the bottom right corner of the window, you can see the start and end points of the selected area. Click on either time to move the cursor to the start/end point of the selected area.
- This snippet will now be saved in a separate file.
- In the Output Format section of the Avidemux window, select MP4 Muxer from the drop-down menu.
- Select Save from the File menu.
B) Use these instructions to cut out small parts of the video:
- Define the start and end points of the clip you want to cut out:
- Move the cursor to the point in the video where the snippet to be cut starts and click the A button.
- Move the cursor to the point in the video where the section you want to cut ends and click the B button.
- An area bounded by the A and B buttons, highlighted in blue, will appear on the video timeline.
- In the bottom right corner of the window, you can see the start and end points of the selected area. Click on either time to move the cursor to the start/end point of the selected area.
- Cut the selected section by clicking ctrl+x or from the top menu Edit and Cut.
- In the same way, you can cut out more snippets of the video.
- Save the cut video to a separate file:
- In the Output Format section of the Avidemux window, select MP4 Muxer from the drop-down menu.
- Select Save from the File menu.
Combining multiple clips into one video file
- In Avidemux, open the clip that you want to appear first in the composite video.
- Then select Append from the File menu. In the window that opens, select the clip you want to appear next in the composite video and click Open/Apen/etc. The clip you selected is now appended after the first clip.
- You can add more video clips after the previous ones by repeating the previous point as many times as you like.
- Finally, select Save from the File menu and save the video in the location of your choice.
