Get your username and password

A guide for a new user can be found at Help.jamk.fi -site. It advices you in obtaining a username/password, email, remote access and support services.

Get the equipment ready

The computer equipment needed in the studies is often specified in the acceptance letter. For studies in general, and for online courses specifically, a personal computer (laptop) and a headset are a necessity. If you mainly study at Jamk premises, you can use the computers available for students.

  • Computer. Usually a basic, up to date PC laptop meets the requirements for online studies. Some subject areas (i.e. technology, ICT) may pose additional requirements.
  • Headset. To participate in online lectures and webinars, you will need a headset with microphone. The inbuilt mics in laptops reduce the voice quality especially in loud environments, and the bad quality has an impact on other students’ experience. Get a headset.
  • Mobile devices, smartphones and tablets may be very useful in your studies. You may use them for making videos, using most of the digital tools and environments at Jamk, and as a last resort, for participating in webinars through Zoom. 

Synchronise and try your email

Following your Jamk student email is very important, as the most important messages are delivers via email. Jamk systems, such as learning platforms, retrieve your email address from the student management registry, which means that you cannot change the email address in these systems permanently. Ensure that you follow your Jamk email on a regular, daily basis. A good option is to synchronise your Jamk email in your personal mobile device. You can also access your email online.

The format of the students’ email address is
username@student.jamk.fi

You can also find email using your browser, logging in with your Jamk email address and password at o365.jamk.fi.

How to configure email to mobile devices?

Install MS Office and Zoom

You can read more about Jamk’s digital tools on this site. Most of the tools can be used via web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge) but these applications should be installed on your computer and mobile devices for better functionality. Before you start your studies, install:

  • MS Office Jamk students are provided with Microsoft 365-licence, which allows you to use MS Office -programmes (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and tools (Teams) both as a cloud service and on your own devices. Install the MS Office package and apps and start using them at http://m365.jamk.fi
  • Zoom is a video conferencing system that is used for webinars, online lectures, videos and group activities. Install the Zoom Meeting Client on your device and sign in with your Jamk credentials (Sign in with SSO).
