Audio and video from laptop to projector

From Jamk staff PC laptops, you can get audio and video to presentation devices via the display port. Since projectors or televisions do not have a displayport connector, a displayport-to-hdmi adapter must be inserted between the computer and the presentation device at the end of the hdmi cable. It is usually available in the premises ready connected to the hdmi end of the cable.

In the classrooms with a control panel, check that the selection button on the panel and the connection cable are labelled the same, e.g. HDMI1, or PC1, and make the selection accordingly. In the auditoriums, in addition to the above selection, also select the Show with projector button. It is also worth remembering that in auditoriums, due to the complexity of the systems, there are start-up delays, so give the system time to boot up! The Show with projector button should be pressed again once the projector has started up.

If the image does not appear, check that

  • video sharing is enabled in the computer settings,
  • the AV cable is correctly connected and properly attached, and
  • the correct source is selected on the control panel or projector.

If you are using an audio and video system via the control panel that was on when you entered the room, turn off the system via the control panel and turn it on again.

If none of these help, send a service request to ICT Helpdesk, call or visit the on-campus Helpdesk. Sometimes cables or connectors wear out during use or the control system is stuck. That’s when you need help from ICT Helpdesk.

Remember to switch off the audio and video system or projector after use.

Newer Macbook Pro laptops come with an hdmi connector, so you can connect them to your presentation device without an adapter. Older Mac Book Pro and Air notebooks require a mini displayport to displayport adapter. These are not standard in the categories, so get one for yourself if you need one.

VGA connectors will be completely abandoned, so their use will no longer be supported.

Most classrooms are equipped with a Sony projector, which you turn on with the projector’s remote control. Use the remote control to select Input C. Adjust the volume using the projector’s remote control or the computer’s own volume controls.
