Import function when copying a whole course
If you want to copy all Moodle course contents to another Moodle course, use the Import function. Note that you need to have teacher rights on the course whose contents you want to import.
Adding and editing an empty Moodle course
- Add a Moodle course for your course implementation in Peppi (in the implementation view . click Learning environments > Add course.)
- Click on the link that appears in Peppi to access your new Moodle course.
- Delete the News activity from the Welcome tab.
- If the course format on the course which you want to import is Onetopic, you do not need to change anything.
- If the course format on the course which you want to import is Grid, go and change the course format of this course to grid as well. (Edit settings -> Course format).
Utilizing Import
- Click More in the navigation below your course name and choose Course reuse.
- Search for the course whose contents you want to import to this course. Moodle suggests some courses but you can also use the search to find the course you need.
- After you find the course, choose it by clicking the circle in front of the course name and click Continue.
- If you want to import all course contents, click Jump to final step.
- If you want to choose what you import, click Next and choose the contents which you want to import. You can import, for example, individual activities.
- Note that Moodle adds the individual activity or resource to the target course on the same tab which it is on the source course. Thus, you may need to move the activity or resource on the target course.
- Wait for the course contents to be copied to your new course.
After importing
- When import is ready, check that all contents have been imported and activities work the way you want them to work. NB. Check, for example, that assignment activity grading settings or question bank question settings have remained unchanged.
- Import brings activities and resources to course welcome tab. If you have added text or images on the welcome tab Summary field, you need to copy and paste that separately.
- Import does not include the course banner image so you need to add it yourself. You can add the banner image through the course settings (Edit settings -> Course summary files) or you can change the banner image by clicking the icon on the top right-hand corner of the banner image.
- If the course format is grid, you need to click Turn editing on and add the sections to the course by clicking the red plus icon at the bottom of the page. Without this your sections are called orphan and are not visible on your course.
