Tasks

In the degree programmes that are taught in Finnish, the students write the description page in both Finnish and English. Finnish students in English-language degree programmes write the description page in both English and Finnish. Other students write the description page only in English.

The description page is instructed in the report template and in greater detail in the reporting instructions. Language Centre’s thesis guidance clinic offers additional support (book the time separately, see the links).

Download the thesis description page template from the Jamk Office Templates site (login required)

Go through the pre-examination feedback you received. Review the evaluation criteria.

Revise your work according to the feedback you received.

Finalize the Introduction chapter. See writing instructions from chapter 4.2.1 of the Jamk Reporting instructions.

Finalize the Discussion chapter. See writing instructions from chapter 4.2.5 of the Jamk Reporting instructions.

In the oral thesis presentation you demonstrate and affirm your expertise. Choose the most relevant part of your thesis for your presentation.

Agree on the presentation time and place with your thesis supervisor. Depending on the degree program, the presentation is done for your commissioner (client) or in a small group or in a seminar. Your thesis supervisor will grade the presentation (see the thesis grading criteria).

Prepare carefully for the oral presentation

Prepare carefully for the oral presentation of your thesis. The time reserved for the presentation is about 15–20 minutes, followed by about 10 minutes for discussion, comments and questions.

Prepare a concise presentation that you can supplement with illustrative material. Learn in advance how to use technical devices.

As a presenter, you activate your listeners by, for example, asking questions, giving examples, or asking for comments. As a presenter, you address the audience. Be prepared to answer questions. The structure of your presentation can be for example:

  • an interesting start
  • a structured and well-chosen main content
  • a closing (conclusions or summary)

If your thesis has a commissioner (client), ask them for written feedback on your finished work.
In their statement, the commissioner or client should assess the achievement of the objectives set for the thesis, the usability of the results and potential areas for development.

Submit

Send your thesis for comments and the commissioner’s statement form (below) to the client by e-mail or by using the Send for external comments -button in Wihi. The client can also return the signed commissioner’s statement to Wihi using the same function. This should be done before you return your actual thesis for evaluation. See that the commissioner’s statement is returned to Wihi in PDF format. The file must be named as follows:

Thesis self-assessment means critical reflection of your own learning. It allows you to reflect upon yourself as a learner, while evaluating the objectives you have set for the thesis, their attainment and potential areas for development. Assess your thesis with the help of the self-assessment form.

If you have written the thesis with a pair, both of you must make separate self-assessment with personal reflection. Before returning the self-assessment to Wihi, combine the files to a single pdf.

Return

Return the self-assessment to Wihi Files -section at the same time when you return your actual thesis for evaluation.  Make sure that it is in PDF format and a single file (see figure).
