Accreditation case examples

1. One course replaces a compulsory course in your degree

You have completed a course at another educational institution, and the learning in the course corresponds to the learning in a compulsory course in your degree (usually the scope is same too).

  • Type of accreditation: Replacement
  • Application addressed to: Person responsible for the replacement course
  • New application: Select ‘Add previously completed studies’
  • Attachment: A transcript of records and a possible link to My Studyinfo
  • Select the course you want to replace from your PLP’s studies.

Note. If the credits of the course you completed earlier is greater than the course to be replaced in Jamk and more competence has been accumulated, you can apply with the “remaining” competence to be accreditation for e.g. elective studies. Apply for accreditation with a separate application.

2. Several courses replace a compulsory course in your degree

You have completed several courses at another educational institution, and the learning in the courses corresponds to the learning in a compulsory course in your degree.

  • Type of accreditation: Replacement
  • Application addressed to: Person responsible for the replacement course
  • New application: Select ‘Add previously completed studies’
  • Attachment: A transcript of records and a possible link to My Studyinfo
  • Select the course you want to replace from your PLP’s studies.

Note. Add a new previously completed course to the application using the “Add course” button.

3. One course is included in your degree

You have completed a course at another educational institution, and there is no course in your PLP that it can replace, but the learning acquired in it can be included in the optional or elective studies in your degree.

  • Type of accreditation: Inclusion
  • Application addressed to: Degree coordinator or the person in charge of the degree programme
  • New application: Select ‘Add previously completed studies’
  • Attachment: A transcript of records and a possible link to My Studyinfo
  • Place the course to be included in the PLP structure. Select the study module in which your prior studies are included. This may be, for example, Elective studies.

4. A study module is included in your degree

You have completed a study module at another educational institution (more than 30 cr), and there is nothing in your PLP that it can replace, but the learning acquired in it can be included in your degree. Always agree on inclusion in accordance with your field’s practice, for example, with your career tutor.

  • Type of accreditation: Inclusion
  • Application addressed to: Degree coordinator or the person in charge of the degree programme
  • New application: Select ‘Add previously completed studies’
  • Attachment: A transcript of records and a possible link to My Studyinfo
  • Place each course to be included separately in the PLP structure. Select the study module in which your prior studies are included.

5. Prior learning replaces one or more compulsory courses

You have acquired prior learning (e.g., through work experience) with which you can replace one or more compulsory or optional courses in your degree. Always familiarise yourself with the intended learning outcomes of your degree’s courses and compare your learning with them.

  • Type of accreditation: Replacement
  • Application addressed to: Person responsible for the replacement course
  • New application: Select ‘Add previously acquired competence’
  • Attachment: A certificate of employment or a certificate received from a hobby, a portfolio, a video, a learning diary, etc.
  • Select the course(s) you want to replace from your PLP’s studies.

6. Prior learning is included in your degree’s elective studies

You have acquired prior learning (e.g., through work experience) for which there is no course in your PLP that it can replace, but you can include it in your degree’s elective studies.

  • Type of accreditation: Inclusion
  • Application addressed to: Degree coordinator or the person in charge of the degree programme
  • New application: Select ‘Add previously acquired competence’
  • Attachment: A certificate of employment or a certificate received from a hobby, a portfolio, a video, a learning diary, etc.
  • Place the prior learning to be included in the PLP structure. Select the Elective studies module.
  • Note: In the Places of replacement section, pay attention to the content of the Job title / other field, as it will appear on your transcript of records. Enter either your job title or briefly describe the learning you have acquired. It can be, for example, ‘team leadership’ or ‘management competence’.
