Classifications
Saving a classification to a curriculum
You can add a new classification to the curriculum by enabling any of the classification templates defined by the administrator. Classifications allow you to classify the study units included in the structure based on a variety of criteria, such as competences of the degree programme.
At Jamk, the competences produced by the degree programme are divided into Jamk’s shared competences and degree programme-specific competences. In addition, accredited degree programmes may have shared European or international competences.
The main user creates the competences and their descriptions in Peppi. After that you can select them on the Classification tab of your curriculum as follows:
- From the main menu, select Curricula planning > Curricula.
- Search for the curriculum. Further information: Search feature.
- From the menu, select Classifications.
- Click the Add classification button.
The Add classification pop-up window appears. - From the Classifications drop-down menu in the pop-up window, select the classification you want to use (e.g. the competences of your degree), and then click the Save button.
- At Jamk, you will need to make classifications both for the common competences and for the degree-specific competences in both bachelor’s degree and master’s degree studies.
- Also add a classification named ‘Structure of the studies’ in the classification of your degree. This is used for defining which studies are basic and professional studies, elective studies, practical training or thesis.
- In addition, Jamk uses classification called Compulsory Studies, which you can use to indicate to students which of the degree’s studies are the so-called compulsory studies.
Editing a classification
When a classification has been saved, you can edit it on the Classifications tab by including the desired study units. Depending on the classification, a study unit is included by simply ticking it or by assigning it a numerical value (e.g. ECTS credits). At Jamk, a classification template is used where the study units are included in the classification by simply ticking them.
