Syllabuses

Creating a syllabus

You can add a syllabus to a curriculum. A syllabus is a plan on how the teaching is intended to be arranged. Several syllabuses can be added to a curriculum. At Jamk, a single structure is created for degree programmes to which several syllabuses can be linked, e.g. separate syllabuses for full-time and part-time studies.

To add a syllabus, do the following:

  1. From the main menu, select Curricula planning > Curricula.
  2. Search for a curriculum and open it. Further information: Search feature.
  3. From the menu, select Syllabuses.
  4. Click the Add syllabus button.
The Add syllabus pop-up window appears on the screen, where you can enter the details of the new syllabus. See the ‘Syllabus types’ section below.
  5. Name the syllabus, e.g. full-time studies, part-time studies or full- and part-time studies. If you create a syllabus for each learning path, you can name them according to the learning paths.
  6. Also select the syllabus type (see below for instructions), starting year, starting semester and the learning part, if any, the syllabus pertains to. If applicable, you can also add a group to the syllabus to which the syllabus is intended.

Syllabus types

There are three syllabus types:

  • Approximate timing: The system will automatically divide the total extent of the study unit evenly between the selected columns (academic years, semesters or periods).
  • Exact timing: You can enter the ECTS credits in the column cells manually.
  • Simple timing: You can click to choose a column cell to which you want to assign all the ECTS credits of the study unit (only one column can be chosen).

At Jamk, exact timing is used as the syllabus type.
